DR. CHESTNUT'S COMMENTARY I was recently doing a podcast about how to conduct public and corporate health talks and I was reminded about the central importance of what I have always considered to be the two most important questions to ask and answer in order to succeed at getting and keeping humans well (recovering from and/or preventing chronic illness). When doing public lectures, radio interviews, or documentary interviews I always pose these questions: Why are Industrial humans so sick and what is required to get and stay well? Further, I point out that if you do not answer the first question accurately (why are humans so sick?), it is impossible to answer the second question accurately (what is required for humans to get and stay well?). Answering these questions has been the central focus of my research, my books, my lectures, and my clinical protocols for over 30 years. The fact is that the human genome is virtually unchanged over the period of 75 years of exponential increase in chronic illness – so we can’t rationally or scientifically blame the chronic illness pandemic on bad genes. Nor can we rationally or scientifically blame a newly developed inability to self-regulate our own blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, inflammation, moods, digestion or any other metabolic function – there is absolutely no evidence that this gene-determined innate ability has changed over the last 75 years. So, if it is not genes, and not defective self-regulation of our own metabolic function, what is responsible for the exponential increase in human chronic illness? The research is unequivocally clear; the reason Industrial humans have become so sick with chronic illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, obesity, diabetes, depression, anxiety, Alzheimer’s and dementia, infertility, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, low sex drive, low energy, chronic pain etc. is due to unhealthy lifestyle and unhealthy habitats or environments. When you realize that humans are sick due to unhealthy nutrition, deficient physical fitness, deficient psychological fitness, and/or toxic physical and social habitats or environments, and that drugs and surgery are inherently incapable of providing healthy nutrition or producing physical or psychological fitness or healthy environments, the reason for the complete failure of allopathic medicine to prevent or cure chronic illness or to improve the health of the human population becomes self-evident.
